Must-Have Christmas Cocktails at Tacos & Beer

Must-Have Christmas Cocktails at Tacos & Beer

’Tis the season. And depending upon who you talk to, that could be a good thing or a bad thing. Maybe you put up your tree two months ago, maybe you cringe every time you hear a bell jingle in the distance. Love it or hate it, the holidays are upon us. And regardless of whether the month of December makes you yearn to celebrate each and every cozy moment or run through the holly-decked aisles of every store screaming, everyone can agree Christmas cocktails are a major perk of the season.

Luckily, Tacos & Beer gets it, and we’ve created some seriously festive and outrageously delicious cocktails. It doesn’t matter if you’re a holiday-lover or a Grinch this season, after your first sip of any of these fabulous drinks, your heart is likely to grow at least three sizes.

Check these out:

Caramel Swizzle

Smirnoff Vodka

Cold Brew Concentrate

Salted Caramel Kahlua

Garnish: 3 Coffee Beans

Pairs well with any dessert, particularly our flan. This coffee-forward stunner is sweet with a touch of salt and just might be the mandatory cap to any meal this month, especially after a long holiday shopping day.

Mexican Pick-Me Up

Xicaru Reposado Mezcal

Cold Brew Concentrate

Ancho Reyes

Simple Syrup

Garnish: Lemon Peel

Think coffee but with an even bigger kick. Ancho and poblano chiles are steeped in simple syrup to create the wonder that is Ancho Reyes. We mix that with good tequila and cold brew concentrate to create a slightly spicy, smoky, and unbelievable amped up cocktail. This one pairs perfectly with our dark-chocolatey Enchiladas de Mole.

Bee’s On Parade

Monkey Shoulder Scotch

Amaro di Angostura

Honey Syrup

This lush cocktail is the elixir you wish your mother had given you when you were feeling under the weather. The aromatic cinnamon and licorice tones of the Angostura bitters swirled with sweet honey syrup is a legendary partner to a silky, malty scotch like Monkey Shoulder. No need to have the sniffles to enjoy this cocktail, it’ll make you feel better regardless of how you felt before you took your first sip. Pairs well with Pork al Pastor, Carnitas, Puerco Verde, or our slow-roasted Cochinita Pibil.

Second Breakfast

BSB (Brown Sugar Bourbon)

Antica Carpano Sweet Vermouth

Apple Bitters

Garnish: Pumpkin Spice Rim and Dried Apples

Cinnamon and brown sugar-flavored bourbon would be good enough on its own, but when mixed with vanilla-forward Antica Carpano and the caramelized apple taste of the bitters, you’ve got yourself the liquid version of a warm hug. Pair this cocktail with churros because why not?

Golden Girl

Xicaru Reposado

St. Elizabeth Allspice Dram

Araceli Marigold Liqueur

Fall Syrup

Cardamom Bitters

Chocolate Bitters

Garnish:  Star of Anise and Orange Peel

Simply, the best flavors of the season in a glass. The Allspice Dram, Fall Syrup, plus Cardamom and Chocolate bitters bring all the seasonal notes you know and love and then some, but the rich, floral, and fragrant secret weapon here is Araceli Marigold Liqueur. Pairs well with our awesome Tortilla Soup or Flautas.

DEELICIOUS

Monkey Shoulder Scotch

Horchata Syrup

St. Elizabeth Allspice Dram

Chocolate Bitters

Garnish: Nutmeg

Adequately named, this lovely seasonal drink has an irresistible Mexican flair. Horchata Syrup offers the cinnamon and vanilla that naturally pairs so well with Allspice Liqueur and Chocolate Bitters to marry brilliantly with smooth and malty Monkey Shoulder Scotch. Try Deelicious with our famous Choco-Tacos for an extra special treat.

Rise (A Glass) to the Occasion

Our most recent event, for example, was served up alongside beers from Pure Project Brewing out of San Diego. Three gorgeous courses of dinner and dessert were complemented by five (yes, five) of Pure Project’s most rave-worthy brews and it was a smashing success. Take a look at the menu below to catch a glimpse of the magic that was coming out of the kitchen, and maybe even more importantly, check out those beers! Let’s just say, you can expect your thirst to be adequately quenched.

National Spicy Guacamole Day

National Guacamole Day: Taste Our Special Guacamole!

We’re Confused…

Everything shuts down for New Years Day, Christmas, and Thanksgiving, but the most important day of the year arrives, and its just business as usual? School is still in session? The post office is up and running? We are slightly horrified by the lack of respect for this wildly important holiday, but regardless, November 14th is upon us, and we’re ready to fiesta. That’s right, National Spicy Guacamole Day will be here before you know it… and we can’t wait to celebrate.

Everyone’s Not-So-Guilty Pleasure

GUAC. The perfect partner to a salty tortilla chip, the epic topping to any taco, the delectable dollop that completes every burrito, quesadilla, and Super Bowl gathering. Make that guacamole spicy, and you’ve got yourself a condiment that’s worth praise and its very own day on the calendar. But where did guacamole come from? Heaven? Let’s dig into the history of the dip of all dips.

This is Guac-ward

Whether chunky or smooth, mixed with salsa or jalenpeños, the undeniable core of guacamole is the avocado. There’s lots of history here, but all you really need to know is the origin of the word “avocado” derives from the ancient Aztec, “ahuácatl,” which literally translates to, um, the male body part that the tree-hanging fruit resembles. When the godsend that is guacamole was finally invented, the word, “molli,” meaning “sauce” or “soup” was added to the end of the Aztec word, creating, “ahuácamolli,” which we now call “guacamole,” and which you’ll now forever only refer to as “testicle soup”.

Less Talk, More Guac

Call it whatever you want, nothing can deter us from loving the ultimate Mexican staple. We know you agree. Lucky for absolutely everyone, Tacos & Beer serves up the best spicy guac in town. And while we probably should close our doors in reverence to such a significant day, we’ve decided to stay open to share the salty, creamy, beautifully acidic, spicy love. Pro tip: you can even opt to add pomegranate or pumpkin seeds to our already outstanding shareable (or hoard-able) appetizer. Come check it out on November 14th for National Spicy Guacamole Day … but, honestly, we’re willing to celebrate any day of the week.

National Margarita Day – National Tortilla Chip Day

National Margarita Day

Not to be out done by National Tortilla Chip Day

Like the age old saying , “which came first, the chicken or the egg?”, margaritas and Tortilla chips practically go hand in hand. Since National margarita day and National tortilla chip day fall on the same weekend, we decided to make it extra special for you. For the whole weekend (Feb 22nd-Feb 24th) we will be serving up these Mexican food and drink specials.

National Margarita Day – Feb 22nd

When it comes to sorting out the legends associated with the origin of the margarita, there are many. Two things are certain; the cocktail included tequila, and the bartender edged the rim of the glass with salt. In Mexico, when drinking straight tequila (especially if the quality was bad), the best course of action was to down it in one swallow, suck on a wedge of lime and lick a dash of salt off the back of your hand.

It makes sense that the salt followed the lime and the tequila to the margarita glass. Today, lime is not the only flavor of margarita, and the specialists behind the bar have gotten creative mixing dried herbs, infused sugars and exotic salts to enhance both the presentation of the glass and the flavor of the cocktail.”

In honor of National Margarita day we are serving up our 22oz watermelon and blood orange margaritas with a tajin rim. Yes, you read that right,22oz. These super sized margs will only cost $11 on FRIDAY. The rest of the weekend you can enjoy these flavors in a glass, pint or pitcher. ($10 glass, $14 pint and $36 for the pitcher)

National Tortilla Chip Day Feb 24th

Even though tortilla chips have always been considered to be a Mexican food, known as tostados, they were first mass-produced in Los Angeles in the late 1940s. It is said that the triangle-shaped tortilla chips were made popular by Rebecca Webb Carranza as a way to use the misshapen tortillas that were rejected from the automated tortilla manufacturing machine that she and her husband used at their Los Angeles deli and tortilla factory.”

Like we said before, you can’t have margaritas without tortilla chips. So since both these popular days fall on the same weekend we will be giving away free chips and salsa all weekend.

Unfortunately, there are no refills.  But you can always order some of our amazing gourmet tacos and get your fill of our house made queso.

There are a lot of National Days on the calendar, but these two make for an exciting weekend. Call your friends and tell them to meet you at Tacos and Beer. These specials will be going on all weekend, Feb. 22nd – Feb 23rd.
